A timely reminder

30th August 2017

This week I have been reading Micah. Little is known about him other than he was a prophet used by God anytime between 750-686BC. At that time, the divided kingdoms of Israel and Judah were prosperous and through this wealth and power they neglected and even forgot God’s ways. Their ‘worship’ had become formal, routine and sometimes stopped completely. God used Micah to remind them of what was important to Him...

The LORD has told you, human, what is good; he has told you what he wants from you: to do what is right to other people, love being kind to others, and live humbly, obeying your God.
Micah 6:8 The NCV Bible

In September there is often a sense of refocussing, as the school summer holidays end and many children and young people start a new academic year. In our church life it can also be a time of refocussing, reconnecting or even reengaging as summer turns to autumn. I think that what God said through to Micah is a relevant reminder to us as God’s people today. Perhaps we have lost focus on who we are and what we are about as Christians? Today God reminds us of what He asks of us: to do what is right to other people, love being kind to others, and live humbly, obeying your God
