An Inbetweener and the King of Kings

28th December 2011

This week I’m an ‘inbetweener’! We’ve had Christmas and the New Year celebrations are a few days to go! I don’t even know what day it is - not because of drink, but that normal life is on hold at the moment. But I have been reading in the Bible from the book of Revelation. There are lots in it I don’t fully understand - the many weird visions that John saw concerning the future. However one thing did stand out to me. As we have just been remembering and celebrating the birth of Jesus (the “Word” becoming flesh) we can easily forget that he did grow up. Here in Revelation John has a vision, not of a baby, nor gentle Jesus meek and mild, but Jesus the warrior King We may struggle with some of the language, but Jesus is an all powerful King and before him everything must bow...

I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron sceptre.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
