The Apostolic Team
There are many things we do together as a family of churches. To facilitate and oversee what we do together we have an Apostolic Team (The word Apostolic comes from the Bible describing people who care for and have a passion to see God working beyond a local church). Those on the Apostolic Team are:
Phil Norris (team leader)
Phil is married to Helen and they have three children and a dog! He grew up in Basingstoke and returned after University in Bristol to work for BCCs. He enjoys thinking about the new shape of Church for the 21st Century and studying the Bible. Phil loves rock climbing, being outdoors and visiting coffee shops! He used to play the violin but not anymore! Phil is part of East BCC, and is the Apostolic Team leader.
Gary Bastin
Gary and his wife Marianne have three children and a large trampoline in the garden. He has worked for BCCs for over 20 years and now leads the TC Community Church. He loves watching movies, listening to music and plays drums and guitar (but not at the same time). His guilty pleasure is watching ‘You’ve Been Framed’ on TV. If a movie was made of his life then Jim Carey would have to play him.
Jon Coombs
Jon (or Jono) has three children and is married to Elaine. He loves nothing more than being with people in a relaxed atmosphere such as a bar BQ on a hot summers day! Originally from Kent, Jono moved to Basingstoke where he led North BCC for a time. After attending Bible College they moved across town to take the lead of South BCC. Jono plays guitar and would love to be in a band!
Dave Downer
Dave and his with Jeanette have been in Basingstoke for many years. They have three grown up children and seven grandchildren. Dave used to lead West BCC until very recently. He is now the Project Manager for the current Building Project. He loves to help practically where he can, and to relax he enjoys playing golf and looking at ‘Screw Fix’ catalogues! Dave is part of West BCC.
Hazel Marchment
Hazel has two grown up children. She was married to Dave until he died tragically from Leukaemia in 2002. She has served BCCs for many years and continues to do so! She loves being around people and longs to see more of God’s supernatural power to be released! She enjoys listening to Jack Johnson, Jamie Cullum and Norah Jones and she once danced with a monk in a Cathedral! Hazel is part of East BCC.
Edwin Monger
Edwin has lived in Basingstoke for over 65 years. Married to Margaret they have three grown up sons and four granddaughters. He is an accountant who continues to work part-time in business as well as pastoring North BCC. His love for the Word of God has given him a teaching gift to help equip and train the people of God in all of life. He enjoys Roast Lamb, classical music, gardening and walking.
Tim Monger
Tim lives in Tadley with his wife Rachel and two children where he leads the Tadley Community Church. They met whilst Tim was studying at Regent College in Vancouver. He loves to read and study the Bible. He enjoys a wide variety of literature including Lewis Carroll and C.S. Lewis. If he had a superpower it would be that when he clicks his fingers all the mess at home could be tidied instantly!
Mike Poulton
Mike is the team administrator, including overseeing the legal and finances of the charity, for the trustees. He's been a Christian over 35 years and has worked in church 'admin' for a long time. Mike’s passion is to look after all the ‘back office’ functions of our churches, to release others into their gifting and ministry. He's married to Cath and they have a daughter and a grandson. Mike is part of West BCC.
Earl Robinson
Earl is happily married to Rebecca. Originally from the USA he moved to the UK to lead West BCC after studing at Bible College. Living now in Overton, his desire is to for each person to know who they are in Christ and as a result be as effective of a Kingdom builder as possible. He enjoys rock, worship, metal and country music, playing guitar, watching and following American sports, playing board games.
Rebecca Robinson
Married to Earl, Rebecca became a Christian when she was 15. She leads West BCC with her husband and shares the same passion for the chuch! Her favourite meal is fried chicken and mashed potatoes, and she is getting used to English traditions. She enjoys playing board games, chat and have coffee with friends and being on-line. If a movie was made of her life she would choos Drew Barrymore to play her!
David Robotham
David has had a career in education and is the Headmaster of The King’s School. He is married to Kate and they have three grown up children and grandchildren. He loves history and particularly the English Civil War and Medieval England. Terry Pratchett and Spike Milligan make him laugh and he enjoys gardening too. As a keen ‘learner’, he would love to learn how to weld! David is part of TC.
Jon Smith
Jon has worked in industry most of his life. He’s married and has two grown up sons. He is a trustee of BCCs and is also involved in various other groups in BCCs and his local Church. His primary gifting is prophetic and administrative, which is an interesting combination. He enjoys rock climbing and Computer Programming (but not at the same time). Jon is part of South BCC.
Andy Taylor
Andy has been part of BCCs for many years. Married to Diane they have two grown up children and two grandchildren. A scientist by training Andy now gives himself to supporting and encouraging inter-church projects across Basingstoke. He is currently the chairman of the Alliance of Basingstoke Churches.
