Call me

11th October 2017

This week I have been reading Jeremiah. He had a tough task as God asked him to speak to His people, Judah at a time when things were going bad for them. They had rejected God and were about to be invaded by the foreign Babylonians! All this took place between 626 and 586BC. Jeremiah was tasked to declare God’s righteous judgment against them, and because he was obedient, the people put him under house arrest in Jerusalem. In the midst of this ‘doom and gloom’ there was a sign of hope...

While Jeremiah was still confined in the courtyard of the guard, the word of the Lord came to him a second time: ‘This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it - the Lord is his name: “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”
Jeremiah 33:1-3 The NIV Bible

Things were not going well! It was at that low point God said that if they called to Him then He would answer, and reveal to them things beyond their understanding. What a message of hope! Whatever we are facing we too can call to God. Sometimes the answer may not be what we expect, as in the case of Jeremiah. God did not say he would ‘fix’ the pending problem, rather He would reveal something above and beyond the current situation. Trusting in God sometimes means seeing our current situations in a different way. God is with us in tough times, but He also transcends them. Call to Him and wait and see what He reveals...
