Children vs Priests

1st February 2012

This week I have been reading Matthew’s Gospel when Jesus went into the temple at Jerusalem, overturned the tables of the money changers and told them that it was to be a ‘house of prayer’ and not a ‘den of robbers’. The following verses says this…

The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them. But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple courts, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” they were indignant. Matt 21:14-15 The NIV Bible

I was interested in the response of the children and the chief priests. The innocent children were free to exclaim their praise at what Jesus was doing, whilst the (older) chief priests hated it. I felt God saying to me, am I going to be like the children or the chief priests when Jesus is at work? What about you, what’s your response, in our Sunday gatherings, in our small groups, at home, work or the gym – who will you be like? My prayer is that we will all be like the children.
