The Commission

25th April 2018

This week I have been reading Joshua. The opening chapter is God’s commission to Joshua. This man had been Moses’ assistant for 40 years. He had served Moses, had fought battles and was one of the original spies who sneaked into the ‘promised land’. Now his apprenticeship was over. Moses was dead and God wanted him to take over. In verse nine God spoke to Joshua and said...

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9 The NIV Bible

I believe that this is the ‘word’ that God wants to speak over everyone in Town Centre Community Church. This shall be my last Bible reflection before I head off on a three month sabbatical and this is what I want to leave with you all: ‘Be strong and courageous’. This kind of strength is not found in our own abilities but in God, as the Bible says when we are weak ‘He’ is strong. Find your strength in God! Being ‘courageous’ could also be read as ‘be brave’. What is God asking of you? Seek His face and then be brave and do it! Do not fear, do not be discouraged! There may be things you face that frighten you, but find your security in God and encourage one another to press on! God is with you wherever you go. Remember God goes before you, and by his Spirit, He dwells in you! My prayer is that this season our church will continue to flourish, grow, expand, mature, pioneer and be a massive force for good in our town. God bless you all!
