Don’t just stand there...do something!

8th February 2012

This week I have been reading Matthew’s Gospel when Jesus told the parable (story) about ‘talents’ (bags of gold). Each of the three people in the story were given some gold to work with. The first two made a profit but the last person did nothing with it...

“Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’
“His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.
Matt 25:24-27 The NIV Bible

The master was cross with the servant and gave the gold/money to the one who had made the most! What stood out to me was that the master was angry with the last person because they did nothing! It seemed that doing nothing was the issue! For you and me I think the same is true. Each of us have gifts, talents and abilities from God and I believe he wants us to use them. It’s OK to start small, as God will give the growth - but doing nothing is not an option! What are you doing with the gifts/talents God has given to you? Don’t just stand there...do something!
