Besom

Poverty, isolation, abuse & homelessness are some of the injustices of life that we see all around us.  We have been commissioned by God to “remember the poor” and many of us want to do something, to get involved, but we don’t know how to.  The Besom in Basingstoke, set up in 2005, exists to help you make a difference to the lives of others – and to make it easy for you to do so.  It provides a bridge between those who want to give time, money, things or skills and those who are in need.  The service that Besom provides is free, and it ensures that what is given is used effectively.  The ethos behind Besom is that everyone – whether 3 years old or over 80, whether working full-time or part-time, a student, between jobs or retired – can get involved.

Recent projects have included:

  • helping people to move into their new homes; cleaning, decorating and furnishing those homes where necessary
  • providing kitchen starter packs for those who are newly housed and have nothing
  • providing non-perishable food packs for individuals and local projects*
  • passing on many Christmas hampers full of special food and festive goodies to folk who could not otherwise afford such luxuries..

*East always has a bag available on a Sunday in which you can put any items of non-perishable food as a contribution to the packs.

To find out more, or if you would like to give of your time, money or things in any way, please contact:
