Leadership

You will find we do our best to recognise everyone's gifts and talents and make room for them as part of our community. It is from these gifts and talents that leadership is exercised. We also recognise that leadeship is exercised in many different places...family, work, community, church. As such we all influence others in some way and exercise leadership.

Within that context of the breadth of leadership, we do also recognise certain leadership functions in the church. These are in place to facilitate the growth and development of the whole church community. We attempt to be inclusive in terms of communication, and be accessible to all. Leaders are given responsibility to serve. We thought you might like a brief introduction to our core leadership team.

Phil & Helen Norris

Phil and Helen have been married for 21 years and have three teenage children. They love to travel both in this country and overseas when possible. They spent two years living in Vancouver, Canada, and think it is one of the most beautiful places to live on earth! Helen loves to sing and Phil loves to hike and climb. Phil oversees East Church but spends much of his time encouraging the development of the six community churches in Basingstoke and working into other churches in the UK.

Dan & Emma Wake

Dan and Emma are newly weds and have recently moved into Chineham. They enjoy walking, eating out and socialising with friends. Emma is a physiotherapist and Dan works part time for the church, helping to facilitate East Church's activity and also in a training role for the Basingstoke Community Churches together.  They have just had a beautiful baby girl, called Esmee Rose, who is taking up quite a bit of their time!!

Hazel Marchment

Hazel is an incredibly creative people person who loves the vibrancy of colour and is energised by people. She loves nothing more than to have a full house of chatting and laughing friends. Hazel has spent many years working for both the church and the local King's School and loves to move around encouraging people as they try new things for God.

Richard & Caroline Wadsworth

Richard and Caroline have three grown up sons and are at a stage of life that has brought significant change. They currently split their time between Bristol and Basingstoke, due to Richard's work, and use this opportunity to make new connections with churches in Bristol. They increasingly travel overseas to encourage churches and love to help people 'hear' God for themselves. They enjoy travelling, reading and spending time with their family and friends, especially over a nice meal or cream tea!

Vyv Duke

Vyv has been married to Liz for 30 years and has four daughters. Vyv is a businessman and Liz an amazing art teacher. They love to travel, which is fortunate since Vyv travels thousands of miles each year on business. Vyv also loves cars, is a big fan of Top Gear and enjoys a glass or two of red wine. Liz enjoys wandering through the galleries of London and they both enjoy a good meal out. They are incredibly hospitable and love to encourage people. They are known for their loving caring hearts.

Mark Holley

Mark is married to Helen and has three sons. He is a dentist with a great reputation. Mark loves to spend his spare time working in a small wood foresting trees. Helen is a creative teacher who communicates with such passion and vitality. They both help facilitate Cafe Connect (see website) and are great at welcoming and befriending new people.

Sue Fear

Sue has been a primary school teacher for approximately twenty years. She communicates really well, has held senior posts in education and helps involve children in church life. Sue enjoys travelling, journals through art and is a good friend to many. Sue has joined the core leadership this year and brings new perspectives and insights to our shared life.

Michael Wadsworth

Michael has also joined the core leadership this year. He is a student, doing a youth and theology degree with us as his church placement. He enjoys music, plays the guitar and leads worship as well as revelling in creating an entertaining curriculum for the young people. He is in the process of establishing a "youth hub" in The King's School and is involved in other local youth projects. He is a great help in facilitating a church community in which young people feel welcome and integrated.
