Ever made a mistake?

10th January 2012

This week I have been reading about Abraham in the book of Genesis. In one part of his story the Bible records that Abraham and his wife Sarah were unable to have children, so Abraham 'sleep’s' with Hagar, their servant and produces a son, Ishmael. This was not what God wanted as Abraham took matters into his own hands! A few chapters later we find that God opens Sarah’s womb and she conceives and gives birth to a son, Isaac. One thing which stood out to me was that God had specifically called Abraham and even his ‘mistake’ in producing Ishmael, did not stop that call or Abraham being used by God. In fact God chose to bless Ishmael as well, as an angel told his mother Hagar...

“I will increase your descendants so much that they will be too numerous to count.” Gen 16:10 The NIV Bible

We too may have made mistakes in the past, but as Christians that does not stop God calling and using us! In fact he can even use those ‘mistakes’ for his purposes and they may even become a blessing?
