Get ready

13th September 2017

This week I have been reading Isaiah. This Old Testament ‘prophetic’ book is the Daddy! It is over 60 chapters long and covers some 40 years of Israel’s history. On many occasions, God spoke through Isaiah sometimes to bring His judgments on godless behaviour, but also to bring Hope! A major theme in this ‘book’ is the ‘servant’ of God. This was Israel; however, they failed. But God predicted that another ‘servant’ would come, so get ready...

This is the voice of one who calls out: “Prepare in the desert the way for the Lord. Make a straight road in the dry lands for our God. Every valley should be raised up, and every mountain and hill should be made flat. The rough ground should be made level, and the rugged ground should be made smooth. Then the glory of the Lord will be shown, and all people together will see it. The Lord himself said these things.”
Isaiah 40:3-5 The NCV Bible

Looking back, we now know that this ‘servant’ was Jesus! The glory of the Lord was (and still is) revealed in Him. However, when Isaiah prophesied about the ‘servant’ nobody knew when he would arrive, but they were expectant! I remember when I was a child going to the annual Basingstoke carnival. We would line the streets and wait for the procession to arrive, it felt like ages! The excitement grew as the floats drew closer and finally arrived! The good news is that Jesus still wants to ‘arrive’ in many people’s lives today. Get ready as ‘the glory of the Lord will be shown’...
