Hear and Seek
22nd February 2017
This week I have been reading the Psalm 27. It was written by King David and is declaration of faith and trust in God. Scholars are not sure when David wrote it, but there were many times in his life when he was facing difficult situations and called on God to help him! At the beginning of the Psalm David is desperate for God. There is a sense that David doubts God is even there, but in his heart, he knows what to do...
Hear my voice when I call, Lord; be merciful to me and answer me.
My heart says of you, ‘Seek his face!’ Your face, Lord, I will seek.
Psalm 27:7-8 The NIV Bible
Once again the honesty of this Psalm is so refreshing! We can learn so much from these two verses! In verse 7 David’s plea was that God would hear him when we prayed and cried out to God. He was longing for God to answer and for His mercy. All seemed lost and God distant, so what did David do? Verse 8 tells us that he listened to his heart, which told him not to abandon his faith in God, but to pursue Him. David responded immediately ‘to seek his face’. He knew deep down in his heart that God is good and therefore the only place to go to. If you are facing difficulties or feel abandoned by God, may you be encouraged to act like David and to seek God’s face.
