Join the family
19th April 2017
This week I have been reflecting some more about Easter. There is so much going on in the events of ‘Holy Week’, which culminate in the resurrection of Jesus. That in itself is incredible, but the historical and theological consequences of it go on and on affecting our world today! In John’s account of what happened he wrote of what the risen Jesus said to Mary Magdalene when they met...
“Don’t hold on to me, because I have not yet gone up to the Father. But go to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am going back to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”
John 20:17 The NCV Bible
The Bible says that Mary did not recognise Jesus at first, she must have been in shock at this encounter! In this verse, John shows us one of the ‘redeeming’ works of Easter. Jesus told Mary not to hold on to him, as he was yet to return to his Father. But he included Mary saying that his Father was also her Father, and that his God was her God. The death and resurrection of Jesus made it possible for Mary to know God as her Father...she was part of the family! What started then is true today. We too can join this special family because of Jesus! Today we can join Jesus, Mary and billions of others knowing Father God for ourselves. #LoveEaster!
