Never Forget

4th April 2018

This week I have been reading Deuteronomy. This is the fifth book in the Bible and it’s name literally means ‘second law’. That’s because it is the second reading of the law to the Israelites some 40 years after God freed them from Egypt. It is a collection of speech’s made by Moses to this ‘new generation’ who were just about to enter the ‘promised land’. In chapter 7 Moses reminded them of their history…

The Lord did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. But it was because the Lord loved you and kept the oath he swore to your ancestors that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh, King of Egypt. Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.
Deuteronomy 7:7-9 The NIV Bible

This is a beautiful reminder to the Israelites of God’s love for them. This love motivated God to rescue, deliver, lead, feed, guide, protect and ultimately establish them in a whole new land! Unfortunately the Jews often forgot this and grumbled against God consistently. But God’s love remained faithful! It’s the same God who love us too! He sent Jesus to rescue and deliver us and bring us into His Kingdom. Let us never forget it! God’s love remains faithful!
