Pass it on
29th March 2017
This week I have been reading Deuteronomy. The word means ‘repetition of the law’. After 40 years the Israelites were about to enter Canaan. Before that, Moses wanted to remind the new generation of their history and all that God had done for them. He did this be reading to them the various laws, reminding them of what God wanted from His chosen people. In chapter 4 Moses warned the people not to forget all that God had done for them, and to pass it on...
But be careful! Watch out and don’t forget the things you have seen. Don’t forget them as long as you live, but teach them to your children and grandchildren.
Deut 4:9 The NCV Bible
Moses sowed the seed of ‘legacy’ into the Israelites! He did not want them to ever forget their journey and how God had looked after them for all those years. In not forgetting, it was important that they passed on the ‘story’ to their children and grandchildren. The aural tradition was very popular then as many could not write or read. We too all have a journey and story to tell. I am very grateful for my parents who when I was a child shared with me their story of faith which led me to become a Christian at the age of eight. As a parent myself I have tried to pass on that message too. Remember you too have a story. Never forget is and share it with others!
