Salvation

20th September 2017

This week I have been reading Ephesians. This is a letter written by the Apostle Paul to the new church in Ephesus, a large city in modern day Turkey. It was written around 60AD to help the church better understand God’s eternal purposes! In chapter two he explained the origins of their new life, in other words, how they were ‘saved’...

I mean that you have been saved by grace through believing. You did not save yourselves; it was a gift from God. It was not the result of your own efforts, so you cannot brag about it.
Ephesians 2:8-9 The NCV Bible

Paul was so clear: it’s only God who does the saving! It is His gracious gift to the human race. We are unable to ‘save’ ourselves, we need external help. This is the good news of the ‘Gospel’! The creator of the universe saw the people that he created and loves getting in to all kinds of mess and trouble. In a massive act of grace, He sent Jesus to rescue us...what an incredible redemptive act! This amazing ‘grace gift’ only kicks in when we come to the end of ourselves and realise we need a saviour. I know I need a saviour...do you?
