The Servant

24th January 2018

This week I have been reading the book of Matthew. It’s the first book in the New Testament and is an eye-witness account of the life of Jesus. In chapter 20 Jesus spoke people about leadership, power and being the boss! He said...

“You know that the rulers of the non-Jewish people love to show their power over the people. And their important leaders love to use all their authority. But it should not be that way among you. Whoever wants to become great among you must serve the rest of you like a servant. Whoever wants to become first among you must serve the rest of you like a slave. In the same way, the Son of Man did not come to be served. He came to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many people.”
Matthew 20:25-28 The NCV Bible

Jesus was known for his ‘radical’ teaching, demonstrated here! Jesus taught the values and ways of God’s Kingdom, which are so different from the way of the world. Even back then, when Jesus walked the earth, people wanted to be powerful, important and in first place! Seems not much has changed over 2000 years! Jesus cuts across that by boldly declaring that if someone wants to things Gods way then they should be a servant. This was beautifully and powerfully demonstrated by Jesus himself. Today wherever you are, be like Jesus and seek to serve all those around you!
