The Suffering Servant
13th April 2017
This week I have been reflecting about Easter. It is a vivid and dramatic story full of suspense, betrayal, violence, heart break followed by joy, ecstasy, life and hope! Each year it the meaning of the various events become more deeper, more profound I find myself so grateful and in awe if God! The amazing thing is that God told the prophet Isaiah what would happen some 400 years before...
He suffered and endured great pain for us, but we thought his suffering was punishment from God.
He was wounded and crushed because of our sins; by taking our punishment, he made us completely well.
Isaiah 53:4-5 The CEV Bible
Chapter 53 of Isaiah is part of bigger prophecy about the ‘suffering servant’. This person was the Messiah who would serve God the Father and save His people restoring them back to God. When we read this we know it is describing Jesus and what is dying on the cross and his resurrection achieved. Jesus took all our bad stuff (called sin) upon himself and by doing so we go free and we are completely made well! Not only that, Jesus has also made it possible for us to be united with Father God now and for eternity! Easter is a story of hope and new life for everyone found in Jesus! Happy Easter!
