Why we are here

Did you know that a church started on Sarum Hill (where we still gather today) just over 100 years ago in 1908? It was the Rev Alfred Bird, an ex-missionary from Whitchurch who launched a Baptist Church! Ever since then (with a few exceptions) Christians have gathered on Sundays to worship God, pray and learn about him from the Bible. We’re here because of this history and because we have had a personal ‘encounter’ with Jesus and we’ve become Christians.

As we learn to understand the Bible we see that he wants his followers to be part of his church, which is a global thing, with a local expression. Another image is that of a family. We are part of God’s big family, but here in Basingstoke is where we live it out. We are here trying to live our lives the way Jesus would want us to. Learning together we seek to know more about Jesus, live as a community of His people and to bring God’s change to others and our town with the ‘good news’ of Jesus. You could say we’re ‘here for good!’
